I love when the circumstances of a theater align with the concept of a script - when the set is build off-site and loaded-in/painted within 2 weeks of being in the space, opting for open framing was convenient and added to this sense of openness (or emptiness depending on the arc of this story). A kitchen, dining room table, staircase trailing offstage, and an abstract front porch for Robyn to smoke a few cigarettes underneath a glowing practical.
The Roommate is a dark comedy about Sharon, a newly divorced in Iowa, who takes in the mysterious and guarded Robyn as a roommate, to save on costs and gain some sort of companionship. Sharon learns of Robyn's past as a professional con artist and begins to reinvent her own life by embracing a new identity and maybe a secret knack for it all.
